BALINESE DANCE CLASS

Balinese dance culture incorporates ancient Hindu traditions with drama that tell stories through dance and music. Dances can represent how the character fights demons and evil spirits.

Various types of dances involve the dancer moving their arms, legs, neck, and fingers in a jolted angular motion with wide eyes open and some incorporate martial arts or swaying movements. Learning about these dances gives us more appreciation for what they mean and what they represent in Balinese culture.

Guests will be taught basic Balinese dance movements and their meanings under an expert instructor. This will involve mastering fluid finger movements and graceful steps synchronized to the hypnotic sounds of the gamelan orchestra.

MALA BEAD WORKSHOP

Get the creative juice flowing as you make your own mala necklace. Malas — also known as yoga beads or japamalas — are necklaces that usually have 108 beads. Mala, Sanskrit for “garland,” is often used to enhance spiritual practice. You may see people use malas while practicing yoga and meditation.

Mala beads have been around for thousands of years, created in India over 3,000 years ago. They are rooted in Hinduism and Buddhism and are meant to help you focus your mind during meditation.

Mala beads traditionally have 108 beads. The number is often described as the numerical equivalent of “Om,” one of the most important spiritual sounds in meditation.

The largest bead, in the center, is known as the guru. It is said to hold the energy generated during your practice.

It's believed they can help heal the body, bring the mind into a quiet mood and increase clarity. Make a wonderful special spiritual gift for you or someone special!

TRADITIONAL FIRE HEALING

Fire heals nature, but when we experience catastrophic wildfires in our communities, we are inclined to fear fire's destruction. This is understandable. In nature, fire has a very different role. A burned-over landscape may feel like loss to us, but it becomes an ecosystem brimming with life.

Keeping in mind the power of fire, we wanted our guests to benefit and heal from it. It is a practice which goes back thousands of years.

At the fire healing ceremony, guests receive a traditional blessing while sitting around an enchanting fire pit at a Balinese Guru's home turned Ashram. During the ceremony, guests can make offerings and honor their higher power.

Homemade Dinner at the Ashram can be included in the experience.
