Discover the Bali Starling, a critically endangered species endemic to Bali.
Visit the only breeding centre dedicated exclusively to raising these birds for release into the wild. Get up close to the Bali Starlings in a protected enclosure, where you can prepare their food and admire their beauty.
Then, visit the release site to learn about their habituation, post-release care, and observe free-flying Bali Starlings thriving in their natural habitat.
You may also have a chance to meet our farm workers, bird keeper, chef, and other members of our organisation.

What is the Begawan Bird Tour?
A conservation-led experience focusing on the critically endangered Bali Starling. Guests visit the breeding center, hand-feed starlings, and witness their release into protected habitats.
How long does the tour last?
The tour runs about 2–2.5 hours, including a visit to the release site and interaction at the breeding center, with an optional lunch afterward.
Is lunch included?
A set lunch and non-alcoholic drink are included in the tour package.
What happens during the tour?
You’ll learn about the Bali Starling’s recovery, feed birds in the breeding enclosure, visit the wild release site to observe free flight, and end with a drink at the restaurant.
When does the tour start, and on which days is it available?
Tours begin at 9:00 AM, running Wednesday through Sunday.
What should I bring on the tour?
Wear comfortable shoes, a hat, and bring a refillable water bottle. Binoculars come in handy.
Can we encounter wild starlings?
Yes, you’ll visit the release site and may observe Bali Starlings flying freely—supporting conservation impact.
How is the Bali Starling program doing?
Since beginning in 1999, over 135 birds have been bred and released. The program received the Tri Hita Karana Nugraha Award in 2015.
