SENARU PANORAMA WALK
Senaru Panorama Walk is an easy half-day walk through the foothills of Mount Rinjani in North Lombok, led by local women guides. Starting near the edge of Gunung Rinjani National Park, the trail weaves through bamboo groves, village gardens, rice terraces and rainforest. It’s a gentle way for retreat groups to experience Lombok’s culture and nature side by side.
What makes this walk special is the women who lead it. These local guides grew up in the villages around Senaru and share their home with real warmth and pride. Along the way, they show how local people use the plants around them, and share stories about the traditions of the Sasak, the people of Lombok.
The route follows old pathways and a winding irrigation channel, passing small hamlets where daily life still follows age-old customs. Look out for cheeky long-tailed monkeys, and with a bit of luck, the rare ebony leaf monkey. With every turn, Rinjani, the sacred mountain of the Sasak people, rises above the rice terraces. On a clear day, you might even see Bali’s Mount Agung across the Lombok Strait. The walk ends in the lush rainforest of Sendang Gile Waterfall, where locals believe a dip behind the falls brings good health.
This activity takes place in Senaru, North Lombok, about 2 to 2.5 hours’ drive from Senggigi.
