SURF LESSONS IN SENGGIGI
Surf Lessons in Senggigi are a fun, confidence-boosting way for your group to catch their first waves together on Lombok’s west coast. No experience is needed, and the gentle beginner spots near Senggigi make it a great place to learn without the crowds.
Lessons are led by Abdul, known locally as Nemo, and his friendly team of local instructors, who have been teaching surfing in the Senggigi area for years. They’re known for being patient, encouraging and always close by in the water, with one instructor for every two students, so nobody gets left behind.
Each lesson starts on the beach, where the instructors explain the basics and surf safety until everyone feels ready. Then it’s into the water to try catching your first wave. Lessons usually take place at Alang-Alang, a gentle spot close to Senggigi, or a little further along the coast if the conditions are better there. Since surfing depends on the tides, the exact start time is confirmed the day before, so you’ll always be out on the best waves for beginners. GoPro photos and videos can be taken on request, so the group has something to remember the moment they stood up for the first time.
This activity takes place in Senggigi, West Lombok, with transport to the surf spot included.

questions
frequently asked questions
Do I need any surfing experience?
Not at all. The lessons are designed for complete beginners, starting with the basics on the beach before heading into the water.
What if I’m not a strong swimmer?
You can still join. Life jackets are provided for anyone who can’t swim, and the instructors stay close by the whole time.
What time does the lesson start?
It depends on the tides. The surf school checks the conditions and confirms the start time the day before, so you’ll be in the water when the waves are best for beginners.
What’s included?
Your instructor, a surfboard, reef boots, a rash shirt if needed, a life jacket if needed, transport to the surf spot, and GoPro photos or videos on request.
How many people can join?
Lessons can be arranged for small groups or larger retreat groups of up to 20 people, with one instructor for every two students.
Can we book more than one lesson?
Yes. A three-lesson course is also available. You start by learning to stand on the board, then catch waves on your own, and finally move to a smaller board for more control.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, sunscreen, a towel, a water bottle and a change of clothes.
